Birmingham Places of Change meeting April 2006

The second Places for Change meeting took place in Birmingham in on 25 April 2006. The meeting took the form of a "coach tour", with visits to two hostels run by Focus Futures and presentations on the theory and practice of making hostels "places of change" from other providers and Maff Potts of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The Providers

Two Midlands based organisations, Focus Futures and St Basil's, showed their work.

Focus Futures provides a range of services to homeless people across the midlands to enable them to move towards independence through support and providing access a range of employment and education opportunities. See the Focus Futures foyer and hostel

St Basil's in the West Midlands works with young people to enable them to find an keep a home, to develop their skills, confidence and opportunities to prevent homelessness. See the St Basil's presentation (Microsoft Powerpoint)

The M25 Group's new flagship hostel in Doncaster demonstrates the aspirations of the programme by creating a building that has the capacity to deliver a wide range of services and activities.
